In hiding

We escaped from Dhaka on a US Government chartered airplane. We spent a few weeks in Florida and now we are in Atlanta, expecting to drive to Rochester MI tomorrow. Catch us if you can. Meanwhile Eileen is going gangbusters on the development of a Graduate School of Management at BRACU while I am trying to develop a (virtual) center for wellness in the workplace. I have just sent a collection of 68 papers / chapters to the printers for a book entitled “How Ergonomics Works”, adding to two similar collections – “Big Picture Ergonomics” and “Human Systems Integration”. I’ll post soft copies on my website when I learn how. I have also collected detailed teaching material on “System Safety”, “Occupational Biomechanics” and “Aviation Human Factors”, plus some short course and presentation materials. My current task is to improve my knowledge and skills with Bluehost, WordPress and OnLine communication and teaching so I can post these collections. Please find me at brianpeaco@gmail.com or Brian.Peacock@bracu.ac.bd if you would like soft copies before I post them for all to see,

Today I cleaned out the website in preparation for reassembling a “Wellness in the Workplace” site. I’ll resurrect my personal stories stuff sometime in the future, but don’t hold your breath. I’m still very clumsy regarding design and the content needs a little help too, but I’ll work on it, perhaps with a little help from my grandchildren.

Corona virus

Well, what do you know? We returned from Bangladesh on an emergency flight organized by the US Embassy, then we spent a few days with the family in Decatur, GA before driving down to our home on Amelia Island. Here we wander the pathways and golf courses, but not the beach, because it is closed. We read, write, surf (the Internet), wave at ‘Bina across the road and drink cocktails with Molly next door at 5 most days.

The TV is full of big dramas about The Crown” and “The Windsors”; gripping stuff about the survival of a dynasty. I remember as a little boy looking through the railings at Buckingham Palace and marching up and down behind the guards. Our niece, Jenny, worked there for a few years as adc to one of the Royals. I guess that Royals are important to a country, or empire; they are symbols along with the flag. Our ancient Queen, waves from her balcony and offers words of encouragement over the media. Meanwhile the politicians are having a field day with their politicking.

This Coronavirus thing is big in itself with millions of often fatal cases, but the global economic fallout is massive as our planet grinds to a halt and our reliance on money is exposed, which in turn stimulates stop gap social service.

We put a weekly order into Walmart and hope to venture out with our masks next Saturday to pick up the staple supplies.

On the road again

Eileen and I will be on the road again early in January. We have accepted 1 year appointments at BRAC University, Eileen as Executive Dean and Brian as visiting Professor. Wish us well and visit us in Dhaka.
