November 2021

I’m back in the saddle, so to speak. Trying to update my site as this is less expensive than having a book printed and, potentially, has more reach. I’ve a few more stories to add, some fact, some fiction and some a bit of both; some technical, some entertainment and some a bit of both. Today I am adding my “Peacock Tales” book which is also at the printers.

A Rainy Day by the Amelia Island Beach

It’s been a while, so here is an update. We’re working remotely at our jobs at BRACU. I’ve just revised and published all my classes – Biomechanics, System Safety, HF in Aerospace, Socio-Technical Systems plus a few other teaching and learning items. Also, I’ve uploaded a copy of my new book “Snippets” there are quite a few typos, sorry about that.; it’s a sort of memoir. It’s raining out, the coronavirus surrounds us, we have to wear masks and avoid crowds; we are hermits. The morning jaunt on the beach is a good escape, but my pace is slow. We’ve had our Coronavirus shots. Checked with the doctor, I’ve got everything wrong; time for a big diet change to get rid of the pills.

January 25 2021

Hello y’all, I’ve just returned to the site and added a few new files – a class on system Safety and a paper on One Page Reports and group based learning. Site management needs practice! We’re still in isolation on Amelia Island, waiting for our next vaccination, before our return to Bangladesh

Saturday

Today I posted a bunch of short course material under the heading of Pitney Bowes where I gave a short course some time ago. Some of the material is more refined than others, but most of the files can be used for s one hour presentation, perhaps with some amplification and discussion. Again I should stress that I am an advocate of the flipped classroom having experienced large classes (>200) with students at the back either talking or sleeping. They take the handouts and textbooks home and study for the exam. The traditional lecture is moribund, anachronistic, vestigial, a waste of time. Students learn. Professors guide. The Internet is the greatest tool that ever happened for the world of education (learning). Professor, heal thyself.

Thursday August 20 at 11.32

Today, I reviewed the site. There are five books, three full courses (System Safety, Aerospace HF and Occupational Biomechanics) about a dozen short presentations that could be turned or grouped into short courses, some exam examples (scenario analysis) and some personal material (High School, Flying, Running, 6th grade course etc). The site still needs refinement but the material is accessible with a couple of clicks.

Malet Lambert

Just put up a few stories about Malet Lambert High School, plus one about learning to fly. It’s hot outside here. Running to Kern Road and back this morning early was slow as is usual nowadays. Cleaning house and getting ready for visitors – Christine with Lily and Yezback’s with Paul.

Ergonomics of Production Lines

This is a 300+ slide presentation, with lots of pictures to demonstrate the challenges of machine paced work – from the shirt on your back through the toys for your children and on to the car you drive. Please spare a moment to reflect on the pros and cons of production line work. I was introduced to this kind of work on the farm as a young boy, potato picking, “stooking”, threshing etc. Back breaking!!

Wednesday August 8

Catching up, ‘fridge broke yesterday, ice cream melted; spent all day finding a replacement. It is small. Major challenge transferring the stuff from the old one to the new one. Tidied the house for a visit by a realtor, she said nice things. We don’t really want to sell as it’s so nice here in Hunter Creek Lane, especially to work remotely. The garden is now weeded and looks good. Looking forward to delivery of copies of latest book – “How Ergonomics Works”, if you want a copy, send me an email to BrianPeaco@gmail.com. Alternatively just check out this web site Brianpeacock.net for a soft copy.

Courses

Three sets of course materials uploaded – Occupational Biomechanics, System Safety and Aerospace Human Factors – you will see some overlap here and there, also some of the big files didn’t seem to want to upload.
